My commentary covers: autumn nail colours, and magnetic and cat-eye finishes
This page is a short record of what the feature includes from me, why I think a working technician’s view has a place in trend coverage, and how it relates to the trend analysis I already publish on Artistic Touch.
What the Feature Includes From Me
The feature, written by Philippa Pearne, is a selection of 25 autumn nail ideas, with commentary from a colour analyst, a retail trend and social expert, and myself. My comments appear in two places.
In the introduction, the article reports my view that the classics are returning “presented in a slightly more modern way”, and gives oxblood and wine rather than a straightforward red, espresso and chocolate browns, and burnt orange, terracotta and rusty shades as examples. Later, in the section on gold cat-eye nails, it quotes me directly:
“I think magnetic and cat-eye finishes will continue to be very strong going into autumn because they give you depth without needing lots of nail art.”
Radina Ignatova, as quoted in Live That Glow
Live That Glow describes me as a professional nail expert and international nail educator with more than a decade of experience who works with salon clients weekly, and the feature links to Artistic Touch – Nail Training Academy.
Why a Working Technician’s View Belongs in Trend Coverage
Trend coverage reflects what is being photographed, shared and written about. That is a useful signal, and I follow it closely, but it is a different thing from working with real hands every week.
A working technician sees how a colour or finish sits on different nail shapes and lengths, what clients actually ask for, and which looks are genuinely new and which are familiar salon looks described in a new way. That last distinction matters to me, because a trend name and a genuinely new nail look are not always the same thing.
None of this makes media and social coverage less valuable. The two perspectives are complementary: coverage shows what is attracting attention, and a technician can comment on how that attention relates to everyday salon work. That is the perspective I aim to bring to any trend commentary.
How This Connects to the Trend Analysis I Already Publish
I already analyse nail trends from a professional salon perspective here on Artistic Touch. My full article, Autumn Nail Trends 2026: What I Am Actually Seeing in the Salon, sets out my own view of the season, including autumnal oranges, burgundy and deeper reds, classic red, cat-eye and magnetic finishes, and clean nude manicures. In it, I separate what current coverage is reporting from the colours and finishes I have actually worked with this season.
The two pieces approach the same season from different positions. The Live That Glow feature is an editorial selection of designs with comments from several experts. My article is my own account of the colours and finishes I work with and how I read the wider trend conversation.
My comment about magnetic and cat-eye finishes also connects to a wider question I have written about: whether a manicure needs elaborate decoration to look finished. I explore that in Is the Nail Industry Moving Away From Nail Art? A Nail Technician’s View.
